In 2005 Group 1 winning racehorse trainer Bill Mitchell retired from training to concentrate full time on bloodstock sales and consultancy.
As a trainer at both Royal Randwick and Caulfield, Bill Mitchell was responsible for the training of Group 1 winners Dignity Dancer, General Nediym, Stylish Century, From the Planet, Electrique, Aragen, Kenwood Melody, Akanaton and also Group winners French Braids, Monet’s Cove, Livistona Lane, Let’s Hurry, Social Rule, Zalinda, Rapan Boy, Hysterical and Welsh Miner etc.
Bill has won the very best of Australian racing in the VRC Derby, Caulfield Guineas, Australian Guineas & Champion Stakes, Newmarket Handicap, The Lightning, Flight Stakes, Surround Stakes, Expressway Stakes and the Todman Slipper Trial, Three Stan Fox Stakes and million dollar 2yo races the Magic Millions, the Inglis Classic, the Heroic Stakes and many others.
Bill grew up at Yarraman Park Stud following his father Major James Mitchell purchase of the historic property from the legendary George Moore in 1968. Yarraman Park is now one of Australia’s leading thoroughbred studs and is managed by Bill’s brothers Arthur and Harry Mitchell. Yarraman Park has consistently topped the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in recent years selling yearlings such as the three top-selling yearlings for $7.9 million, a $3 million Redoute's Choice-Deja Slew colt for $3 million, Alinghi's Encosta de Lago sister for $2.6 million and a $2.3 million Redoute's Choice-Exact colt.
Bill is active at all yearling and broodmare sales purchasing for clients and can also arrange stallion bookings.
